Preparedness

The OEM does many things on a day-to-day basis to prepare for disaster.  We are continually reviewing and updating the city/county disaster plan to make sure that it accurately reflects our capabilities and needs.  We identify and coordinate training for our first responders so they know the latest in disaster management techniques.  We also plan and conduct drills that test our plan and response capabilities.  When we find weaknesses in our plan or training, we make corrections and then plan and drill some more.

What you can do

Write and practice a home disaster plan.  Build a home disaster kit.  Have a family communications plan.  Make sure every one in your household knows their roles and responsibilities during a disaster.
